Everything you need to know before your child's first visit — from what to bring to how we verify your insurance ahead of time.
01
Call 512-474-7575 or use our contact form. When you call, have your insurance card ready — we verify coverage on the spot, free of charge.
02
Our team checks your plan before your appointment. We'll tell you exactly what's covered and any expected out-of-pocket cost — no surprises at checkout.
03
We'll email your new patient paperwork before the visit. Arriving with completed forms means less waiting and more time with the doctor.
04
Plan to arrive 10 minutes early. Our reception team will welcome your child warmly and introduce them to the clinic at their own pace.
05
Dr. Steve or Dr. Angie will perform a complete exam, explain every finding to you, and answer all your questions without rushing.
06
We'll create a personalized care plan and walk you through any follow-up appointments, treatment options, and preventive recommendations.
Having these items ready speeds up registration and helps us provide the best possible care for your child from day one.
Both sides if possible. We'll make a copy for our records.
Driver's license or passport for registration.
List of current medications, allergies, and any relevant medical conditions.
If you're switching from another dentist, we can request records for you or you can bring them along.
For younger children or anxious kids — a favorite toy, stuffed animal, or blanket is always welcome.
Avoid words like "hurt," "needle," or "pain." Instead, use words like "counting teeth," "cleaning," or "meeting new friends."
Children (especially younger ones) tend to cooperate better in the morning when they're rested. We're open Mon, Tue, and Thu starting at 9 AM.
Books like "The Berenstain Bears Visit the Dentist" or "Brush Your Teeth, Please" are great pre-visit conversation starters.
Let your child practice with a toothbrush, count each other's teeth, and "check" stuffed animals. Familiarity reduces fear.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends your child's first dental visit by age 1 or within 6 months after the first tooth appears — whichever comes first. Early visits establish healthy habits and let us identify any early concerns.
Yes. Parents are welcome to accompany their child throughout the exam. For children who are comfortable, some dentists find that children behave a bit differently without parents in the room — we'll discuss whatever approach works best for your child.
Absolutely. Special needs dentistry is a core part of our practice. We have experience with a wide range of developmental, behavioral, and medical conditions. Please mention any special considerations when you schedule so we can prepare the appropriate accommodations.
For routine checkups, 2–4 weeks in advance is typical. For urgent concerns (toothache, injury, abscess), call us at 512-474-7575 — we do our best to see urgent cases same day or within 24 hours.
Please tell us when you schedule. We have specific protocols for anxious children, including longer appointment slots, a slower pace, sedation options, and a child-led "tell-show-do" approach. Dr. Steve and Dr. Angie have worked with thousands of fearful patients — this is a specialty they take seriously.
